'River Euphrates' is the sixth of ten instalments of the debut album from The Silver Panda, entitled ‘Freak Scene’, which they're releasing song by song, one every two weeks...

The album is a set of ‘weird covers’… The original versions were all recorded between ’88 & ’92, by bands that used guitar noise at the centre of their sound (call it grunge, art punk, indie rock, shoegaze, whatever) - Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Pavement, My Bloody Valentine… - and our versions strip away the dirt & the electricity, and reinvent what’s left with acoustic instruments, harmony voices, Latin percussion, jazz-inflected woodwinds…

The first five singles, their versions of Dinosaur Jr.'s 'Freak Scene', Pavement's 'Summer Babe' & 'So Stark (You're A Skyscraper)', 'You Made Me Realise' by My Bloody Valentine & 'She Rides The Waves by the Pale Saints, are available via the 'music' tab above ^^^


"River Euphrates has to be one of the most inspired re-inventions on the Freak Scene album, translating the Pixies song into a sort of fantasy '60s Latin beach party universe, and making it sound like it was written to be that way...with Maree Choie's clarinet snaking around the Joey Santiago surf guitar lines over an infectious blend or percolating percussion..."
